Rafi Bastos

Rafi Bastos is a 6-foot-7 Jewish-Brazilian comedian with a Dracula-like accent and a rapidly growing social media presence thanks to his English-language stand-up clips. Many of his viral clips are from his daily performances at the prestigious Comedy Cellar. In his native Brazil, Rafi is a comedy and media pioneer, one of the first to introduce American-style stand-up to the country. Before moving to the United States, his 17-year career in comedy and performance earned him numerous "firsts," which he discussed during his interview on The Joe Rogan Experience. After breaking several records, he opened his own stand-up club and regularly stirred national controversy by challenging Brazil's oppressive free speech laws. His videos—stand-up shows, music videos, interviews, and sketches—have amassed over 370 million views on his YouTube channel alone. In 2011, The New York Times named him the most influential man on Twitter, when he had 7 million followers (he now has 11.4 million). In 2013, he won a Shorty Award, also known as the "Oscars of social media," for Best Comedian. Whether in English or Portuguese, Rafi continues to prove he is one of Latin America's most talented artists, constantly pushing the boundaries of innovation, quality, and influence. His sharp, observational humor, intelligence, and worldview have made him an online sensation and the first Brazilian comedian to become a regular at the world's most renowned comedy clubs, including the Comedy Cellar in New York, the Laugh Factory, and Hollywood Improv in California. He is also the first Brazilian comedian to headline Just For Laughs, the world's largest comedy festival, in Montreal.
